Craigslist: Who's Who

Comments

Uh.

Sooooooooo...

Who are they?
Sorry...couldn't see the text before.
[this is good]
Thanks, Jim. I'm not surprised. Whether or not it's gay porn doesn't matter to me. It would explain the hesitation on the part of Craiglist to tolerate the ads, but it still shows a lack of regard for it's patrons.

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for a response from craigslist.

Norm,

Do you say this because you may have some personal experience trying to get through to them? I was just wondering as I have not gotten any feedback about how they respond to people's inquiries. I'm sure they have to be bedfellows with some swifty lawyers given some of the things that have happend in the past.

(I'm not sure where the rest of my prior comment went to.)

I have tried to contact cl's management for other issues, but never received a response. If you read their FAQs and Agreement, it's pretty clear that they simply do not have the staff to reply to e-mail -- let alone monitor all posts. It's a small staff running a (mostly) free global service.

The beauty of cl, is that it's (mostly) free, not moderated site with user-generated content. The flagging system does work -- especially for spam and miscategorized posts. However, flagging requires more than one person's opinion.

Besides the adult content warning page, I'm not sure what else cl could do to monitor the site's content without charging fees and hiring staff to monitor each category. Porn monitoring websites are not effective. Ultimately parents are responsible to monitor what their children are browsing.

"flagging requires more than one person's opinion"

Now, that's interesting. It's not a matter of "opinion" when it clearly violates the terms of use. A man showing that he is having anal intercourse or exposing his dick is a violation, not an opinion. As for more than one flag required, that makes no sense. What is this baseball? 3 strikes and your are out? I quess cultural awareness and advocacay is going to have to occur for this go away. Again, if they want to be a porn site, fine, but they should not have their cake and eat it, too. I also wonder why they do so much for "free". What's the gain for them? Apparently the CEO is making some money to offord $125.00 jeans, extensive travels, and a San Fransciso lifestlye (SF -- one of the most expensive places to live in the US).

I will be getting my law enforement involved in my community. I will ensure the officiers flag these posts on a daily basis. I will also be contacting my public officals to ensure I have their backing. Enough is enough. Maybe some media help won't hurt either.
