Craigslist Strikes Again!
Sensitive military items are being offered for sale through Craigslist, the Government Accountability Office said in a report, a practice that puts U.S. service members and allies at risk. reported here.
GAO found numerous defense-related items for sale to the highest bidder on Craigslist and other sites, the report said. "A review of policies and procedures for these web sites determined that there are few safeguards to prevent the sale of sensitive and stolen defense-related items using the sites."
The GAO report expressed concern that items such as the protective gear could be reverse engineered by adversaries in order to design countermeasures.
I found this interesting:
In a statement to a congressional subcommittee Thursday morning, Jim Buckmaster, CEO of Craigslist (pictured above), said that GAO mischaracterized his site by calling it "a global marketplace with international reach." He said it was a collection of separate, local marketplaces and that sales involving shipping are rare and strongly discouraged. He said that Craigslist nonetheless does not accept misuse of its site and is eager to solve this problem.
"Contrary to what the GAO report implies, Craigslist has more people actively engaged in its anti-fraud efforts than any Web site on earth," said Buckmaster. "In addition to our in-house anti-fraud team numbering a dozen or more staff members, and the automated blocking and screening routines we have developed, Craigslist benefits from tens of millions of passionate users diligently reviewing every ad on the site, with each user having the power to delete inappropriate ads, which power they exercise to the tune of several million ads removed each month."
The latter of course is misleading. Makes it sound as though readers have absolute power to delete inappropriate ads (which would mean over 90% of the personal ads) and from my experiment THAT IS JUST NOT THE CASE!

Seems to Me that craigslist would make a good study for the ATF,
considering what they just did to that poor Soldier in Wisconsin,
their whole staff would end up in prison.

Im a tad technically challenged, but lessee if this works,

casting the first stone, and another about being judgemental. As I am not without sin, I try to
stay away from rocks. And as I am not God, I do not judge...I leave that to him."]
Jim, the next time you face this pop culture judgment of Christianity, please use my profile to answer.
[" I demand an apology from you leftist hypocrites or anybody who's ever condemned a Christian for judging. I and my entire faith have been labeled hypocrites for exercising our God given responsibility to use good judgment. You have managed to convince nearly all of pop culture to judge and condemn us for judging. By mis-using our scriptures, you take one verse out of context and reduce thousands of years of wisdom to a three word bumper sticker slogan, "Don't Judge People" or "You Shouldn't Judge" effectively hijacking the lesson it was meant to teach and twisting it to fit your self centered agenda to continue in whatever sin you feel judged for. I'd be shocked if any of you could name the verse you so glibly quote to justify this charge against us. Even if you could, you wouldn't be able to quote the next verse or any other verse that supports it, yet you have the nerve to quote our Holy Book to us without any understanding of its proper application.
I will rip your self righteous prejudiced condemnation of us to shreds and expose your hypocrisy before God and everybody if you try doing that to my face. If you ever do decide to read a scripture, try this verse; [John 7:24 "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment."] Oh my God, open these hearts to the truth and make them face their shame for shaming the righteous. Don't snort! We know we are not perfect, neither are we wrong about this. Righteousness is one of those buzz words you hypocrites, who don't like being judged but, enjoy judging us for. If you had any idea what righteousness we speak of, you'd know your judgment of us is unfounded and just plain wrong.
I suppose you'll try to judge and condemn me for being angry next. When I am wronged, and especially when my entire faith is condemned on the basis of a prejudice, I have, not only a right, but a responsibility to be angry. Its called righteous anger and the Bible reference for that is Eph 4:25-27. [25 Therefore, putting away lying, each one speak truth with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. 26 Be angry, and do not sin" do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 nor give place to the devil.] It means I have to speak the truth, it means I have to say it in the face of those indulging in self delusion. It means I shouldn't bottle it up because that would give place to the devil using it in me to create my own prejudice. So if you don't like being judged with righteous proper judgment, tough, that doesn't give you license to judge us with prejudice and unrighteous improper judgment."]
Dear 'Cat,
The story has nothing to do with craigslist,I was just pointing out what
the BATFE could do to them if they put their minds to it.Go to
the video link above and see what BATFE did to the Soldier in
wisconsin, whose career and life is now in a shambles because of
a simple weapon malfunction.

Sir,I don't know if You call Yourself "JudgeBob"because You used to
sit on a bench,or that is just Your internet handle. But doesn't it strike
You as odd that some expert witness, such as a neutral gunsmith,
wasn't called in to determine the fact that the rifle was, indeed, broken,as testified
to by the man at the rifle range? Is our justice(?) system so broken, and ATF
so insistant on strangling people over the gun issue, that these measures
could not be taken, especially in light of this Man's 16 Years of dutiful
service to this Great Nation? The fact that craigslist is apparently immune,
and this dedicated Soldier is not, really lights My firecrackers.
My legal knowledge is limited, sure, but I'll say this,if I were the President,
I would personally go there to wisconsin and put My foot up the asses
of every agent involved, fire their commanding officer, expunge that
Soldier's record,and have him reinstated immediately.JMHO.

Remember Nifong and the conviction of children participating in 'slap butt' day at a middle school? Those kids were strip searched and held in a local jail. In effect the boys were sexually assaulted due to this over zealous prosecutor looking for a politicians reward of a seat in office.
How zealous would these idiots be if they had the same done to them when they were found to be abusive of their powers?
You're right,JB,and I also agree wholeheartedly about the border
patrol officers, they should also be released immediately, given their pack pay,and returned to work.I believe I said something to that effect some
where on HI's blog,a while back.Agreed, also, about unfortunate and
mostly,if not all, illegitimate cases being pressed on Our combat
personnel, who are forced every day to make split-second decisions.
I have,of course, read your post above about hypocritical judgement from
the left, trying to use scripture to their own agenda, request permission
to repost,where necessary.
And agree with AI,UUURRRGHHHH!!!!
This whole thing makes Me so mad, well,I'll leave the expletives out of it.
A. Seems Wisconsin soldier got screwed. His weapon was considered a legal weapon. Even though I think semi-automatics stink. BUT it was legal. HOW his friend fired 800 rounds before it jammed is beyond me if it is one shot after another vs. machine burst. Seems they should look into the gun failure. The company that makes the gun should look into it and defend this poor guy and someone should wonder what the heck 800 rounds? Might that have caused a malfunction?
B. If secrets are being sold on Craigslist (and I don't like the thing anymore than eBay), it's really about security breech and access to sell secret documents. The barn door is open to selling anything on the Internet. So shut down Craigslist and the stuff will go for sale on eBay or private sites. So what's the point about Craigslist? Am I missing something? Isn't it a possibility that secrets (if accessed and that is a horrible thought) can be sold anywhere on the Net and are. Hey diagrams for bombs are on the Net for free. Tim McVeigh could tell you that (ooops, not anymore :) A little gallows humor.
I see the point. Yes, the federal government wastes time on this guy who had no malice, but does nothing to this machine of craigslist who, as the story said, put U.S. service members and allies at risk.
The guy from WI lent a rifle, used at a range, that malfunctioned for God's sake. What's the big feaking deal!
So, if Craig's List which after using once to rent out an apartment, as I looked through it I found it to be pretty offensive is not keeping a better watch on what's being sold, then, yes, they are culpable. And you know what? They are as responsible to protect American interests. There's a line to draw on free capitalism and their obligation to monitor. One more reason for me to dislike them.
